The writer's opinion that verses in the Vedas which talk about social categories mean that society has to be divided into a hierarchy with people divided into low and high classes. This is a distortion of the Vedas which do not at all indicate that people become lower or higher based on their place as perceived in society. Therefore, it is made to believe that cases of prejudice against Dalits is backed in ancient Hindu ideas.
