Iftekhar Murtaza Kills Hindu Ex-Girlfriend’s Family Members for Breakup Due to Religious Differences, Sets House on Fire
On May 21, 2007 at Anaheim, near Los Angeles, Iftekhar Murtaza, a Bangladeshi national, killed Jayprakash Dhanak, 56, and his daughter Karishma Dhanak, 20 and set their house on fire. The victims were stabbed, strangled and burned. Jayprakash’s wife, Leela Dhanak was beaten severely and left to die on the neighbour’s lawn.
Iftekhar Murtaza was the ex-boyfriend of Jayprakash’s daughter and Karishma’s younger sister, Shayona Dhanak, 18. According to court documents, Iftekhar was upset with Dhanak family for discontinuing the relationship due to different religious backgrounds.
