The Atlantic Distorts and Downplays heroism of Hindu historical figures, glorification invaders.
The writer tries to say that Amar Chitra Katha popularized negative Hindu ideals in society. He gives examples of Padmini committing sati and it being demonstrated as a brave act to inspire men and Ekalavya sacrificing his thumb as guru-dakshina. For the former instance, the writer forgets that Rajput women committed sati to save themselves from dishonor at the hands of the Muslim rulers. The writer tries to make Hindus feel guilty for extolling many Hindu leaders and visionaries by pointing out that Muslim figures have not been given the same treatment. However, he is glad that Amar Chitra Katha made comics presenting Mughal emperors, just because they were Muslim, forgetting that they were responsible for mass murders of India. This is a clear case of guilt-tripping of Hindus and making us feel ashamed to showcase our great culture in the mainstream.
